ABOUT US

The Internet, in its own mysterious way,
had brought together a group of Singaporeans to an on-line Othello game site.
From faceless people who can only address one another by a nickname, we met, became friends
and started having the idea of an Othello Association in Singapore.
We believe that Othello belongs to the genre of the great classics
and we seek to bring it to the right place where it belongs.

Thus the Othello Association (Singapore) was formed.
A non- profit organisation whose primary objective is to promote the game of Othello in Singapore,
our long term goals are to create awareness and enthusiasm in this game on a nationwide scale.
We seek to achieve this by organising National level, Varsity level, JC level, Secondary School level,
and Primary School level tournaments.
On a smaller scale, OAS will organise workshops
and share the finer points of the game with anyone who is keen.

Singapore was last represented in the international Othello arena in 1985,
by Hang Lee Juan at the 9th World Othello Championship held in Athens.
On the global scale, it is the goal of OAS is to have Singapore represented
in the World Othello Championship some time in the near future.

A common phrase heard among the Othello community is
"a minute to learn, a lifetime to master".
Our slogan reads
"Othello ... A whole new perspective with every flip."
Simple sentences like these captures the intricacies involved with such a simple game.
We believe that many Singaporeans share our sentiments
and it is our hope that we can unite to bring Othello to greater heights.
